wondering about auggielou?

Who is auggielou? Actually, it isn’t just one person ~ but rather a hybrid of the nicknames we call our kiddos ~ Auggie, for our son, and Lou, for our daughter. They actually have several nicknames ~ Peanut, Nut, Auggie-Doggie, Em’s, Lou-Lou and Sweat Pea. We were almost a candle company called Nut&Pea, though after a family vote you know how that turned out! They are my reason for doing most everything ~ so why not something that brings me great joy.

The addition of the birdie is an ode to my grandmother ~ a loving and modest woman who wasn’t afraid to be exactly who she was ~ smart, kind, giving and tough when she needed to be. You were always welcomed into her house with all the smells of home and sounds of her bird, Chipper, singing along to the classical music on the radio. When you left her house, it was always with more than you entered, including her love and goodies to take home.

In the end, I wanted to be sure that the name included a piece of me that means more than anything, my family. Something that was a reminder of my past, present and future of our children and the wonderful people that they are growing up to be.

about me

I’m Jenny ~ your resident candle girl here at auggielou. Along with ‘Auggie’ and ‘Lou’, my husband, Ron, and I share our suburban Indianapolis home with our fluffy dog, Dasher. We always enjoy hosting family and friends ~ and it isn’t uncommon to see a crew in our yard or home. We truly appreciate the time we have with others and what we can do to make others feel welcome in our home.

In search of a creative outlet for my notorious right-sided brain, I started making candles for my friends and family. What started with a basic process ~ of melt, stir, pour ~ has evolved into a desire to produce a candle with just the right amount of scent and melt. There is a lot more science to this than I ever thought! Who knew there were so many different kinds of wax, wicks and scents and the impact of changing just one of these variables. It really has been a process of exploring the more creative and innovative part of my brain ~ all while appeasing my Type-A nature of getting a candle that is just right.

It is a delight to be able to give something I have created and crafted to others as a gift, or just because. While I do appreciate receiving, as an eternal hostess I have discovered that my true joy is that in giving ~ which is how auggielou came to fruition. Being able to create something for you to enjoy or to share with a friend.
